Become part of the Sole Society... ?!?!

By: Danie

Recently I found that Sole Society is no longer requiring members to pay the monthly "fee." I suppose someone thought if you got rid of the fees it would open the doors to people who weren't comfortable with that set up.

YAY for us... now you can join and buy what you like when you like. They really do have a great selection of shoes at a low cost, $49.95. So if you wanted these very sexy Marco Santi heels.... they could be all yours if you sign up for Sole Society ;)

For you ladies that are looking for more of a bargain I suggest Hautelook. It is a limited time private sales site, which means you have to sign up for the mailers and when the sale starts you have to pounce. This may be a little known fact but Hautelook is a subsidiary of Nordstrom. Which means you are getting Nordstrom brands!! I especially like it because you can snag a cute pair of shoes for as low as $20?!? Crazy, I know. The thing is they have a really limited supply (I am guessing maybe 1-2 pairs of shoes in each size) so you really have to be a decisive shopper or its gone : \
I got these cute Marco Santi shoes on Hautelook they were around $30

You have to know the worth of things to get the best price... I know I can go to TJ Maxx or Ross and get Carlos Santana Shoes for $30, which are amazing and so comfortable and also retail for $80 or more.....Michael Kors sunglasses for $20 but I know I cant get $50 7 For All Mankind jeans (at least I have never had that experience). I usually shop Marco Santi on Hautelook because it is cheaper than at Sole Society or Nordstrom Rack but I have a limited selection and I have to shop FAST!! Although the faster you shop the less time you have to think about the ridiculous amount of shoes in your closet :)

Happy Shoe Shopping!!!

Low Cal Chocolate Cake!

By: Danie

I had been hearing about making chocolate cake without the eggs and oil!?! Ingenious, that is like all the calories. I must say I have tried using apple sauce instead of oil- in banana bread it was O.K. it made the bread really dense. So for this experiment I was a little skeptical but for a 180 calorie piece of cake I was open to trying.

Ingredients
Chocolate Cake Mix (Moist)
1 cup water
1 single serve non fat greek yogurt (4/5 oz)

So I mixed everything together and the consistancy was alot like a mousse and it tasted really sour...BLAH!

So I baked it according to the specifications on the box.

This delish looking cake came out. Now was the true test of the recipe...

It was fantastic!! So smooth and moist... the sour taste had vanished, like magic. I added some strawberries and whipped cream but it was still a low cal treat :)

How amazing that I didn't need oil or eggs for this cake mix and it tasted wonderful.

Wish List *Bloom Theory Straps*

by: Ashley

I saw these a couple weeks ago - and I just can't get them out of my head.  I'm just a rookie when it comes to my DSLR but who wouldn't absolutely love to dress it up a little.  Bloom Theory Straps are totally swoon-worthy! Attach one of these, and your camera becomes a fashion accessory!

Top Left: All About Beaus
Top Right: Ballet by Degas
Center: Stardust
Bottom Left: Washed Ashore
Bottom Right: Petit Cheri

I love all of these... but I don't think my fiance would approve of me dishing out $100+ for a camera strap :(  So for now, these will just have to remain on my wish list.  See you in my dream Bloom Theory Straps...

Trip Review - Hot Springs, AR

Hey guys... the blogging has been taking the back burner to wedding planning :(  But I decided to post a quick little review of our trip to Hot Springs.  I had never been before.  Being up in the mountains was so beautiful!!!

Here's a few pictures from the downtown area:

These pictures were taken on Bath Row.  The bath houses were built over the natural hot springs!! There's so much history this small little town.  The one pictured above is Quapaw Bath house.

Hot Springs is definitely the place you go when you want a relaxing weekend.  The people there are so nice and friendly and there's a variety of things to do - spa, hiking, live music.  By the way... does that mean I'm getting old when I enjoy a low-key romantic and relaxing weekend vs. a party weekend in Miami or Vegas??!!

Tuesday Shoesday - Ikat Gladiator

by: Ashley

Ikat is huge these days, but how do you feel about it on your feet? And mixed with the gladiator style.  Check out these Ikat Gladiator sandals from Spool 72.  I personally love them - and they look so comfortable.  I think they'd be perfect for a music festival look, or for a day of sightseeing in a tropical location.

DIY - Custom Phone Case

by: Ashley

My mom decided that the only thing she wanted for her birthday this year was a custom phone case.  Say what? This exists... like you can choose your own design and pictures for your phone case??? Yes, I know, this is totally rocking your world...

So I created one for her on the Case-Mate website.  Now she carries around her phone with a gorgeous picture of... moi!! Ok just kidding... I put a picture of her grandchildren on it :)

I was a little nervous about it.  You know how sometimes you order photo gifts and they don't quite come out how you imagine.  I had fears that the pictures would be grainy or the colors would come out all wacky.  But O.M.G. I was ridiculously pleasantly surprised.  The colors came out so vibrant (the pictures were of the kiddos outside in the grass and bluebonnet fields) and the resolution on it looks awesome.

I have one suggestion for you (and it's what I did).  They have multiple layouts so you can put more than one picture, but I didn't like the layouts.  So instead I created my own layout.  I used Picnik (which is sadly closing) to create my own collage, and just used the one image layout on the Case-Mate website.

Perfect Pink Pump

By: Danie

When I saw these cute Joan David pumps in Nordstroms this past week I thought I was going to melt... it was like love at first sight. Immediately they were on my list of shoes for Tuesday! The trends this spring and summer are all funky, colorful, seventies inspired. These classic soft pink vintage style shoes are a breath of fresh air for those seeking classic elegance.

I thought this would be a great outfit for dinner at a nice restaurant or the office {I would tone it down with wide leg black pants}. Hope you all enjoy these shoes as much as I do!!

Getting Portions In Control!

By: Danie

Happy friday ya'll! Sorry this post is so late, I am just running around like a crazy lady. Between work, wedding and baby I am lucky if I get any down time these days. Better late than never :)

It dawned on me over the past few weeks that I haven't been finishing my plates of food. Which is not a bad thing because I don't work out as much as I need to so the less intake the less I need to work off later. I noticed that at dinner time I am usually busy with Mikey, I will take a bite of food and then feed him for a little bit. So the cycle goes at the table, bite of food.... fuss over the baby.....bite of food etc. No complaints here it seems to really be helping because I realize I am satisfied before I am stuffed.

Not everyone has a baby to help control their portions, so I gathered some visuals to help determine portions. This will be extra helpful for snacking and eating out!

Thursday Trends... Lace Shorts

by: Ashley

I've been seeing lace shorts a lot lately and I sooooooo wanted a pair.  Since I have a {big-ish} butt I was afraid that I wouldn't find a pair that I like on me.  But I tried on this pair form Kohl's (LC by Lauren Conrad collection) and it was love at first sight!! I haven't actually worn them out yet because I'm saving them for my honeymoon but this is the vision I have for them:

Black and Blush Spring Outfit

So what fashion trend are you guys digging this season?

My Bedazzled Sandals!!

By: Danie

I found adorable sandals on pinterest they looked very expensive and very cute {of course I cant find them now!!}. They were my inspiration for bedazzling these plain jane shoes. The other shoes bow was fabric, I played around with changing up the bow but I wanted this to be an easy DIY.

This looks strikingly similar to the shoe I really loved but this shoe rings in at around $13. My guess is that it is waaay cheaper than the other pair ;) The shoes came from Charlotte Russe and the gems were standard craft store gems. The only thing I would change is the kind of glue I used {Craft Krazy Glue}, it doesn't dry all the way clear it kind of has this foggy look which effects the shimmer of the gems.

I know this wasn't terribly difficult but honestly I had never really thought about dressing up a cheapy pair of sandals before this project. It was well worth it because these came out great and what a deal, can't beat $13 dollars!

Tuesday Shoesday - Spring Flats

By: Ashley

There was once a time when I could wear heels all day and all night. Now my poor feet cringe at the thought!! Is this part of getting old? So instead I'm always on the lookout for some sophisticated looking flats or wedges. And I stumbled upon these beauties from Francesca's. Aren't they perfect for the first day of Spring? I think they'd be great for both work or play.

P.S. This is our 100th post!!! :)

Braided Hair-Do's

by: Ashley

When I was a little girl I used to wear my hair in french braids all the time.  Mostly for convenience - my hair was super thick and wouldn't stay in a ponytail very well.  But lately it seems like braids are making a come back.  Danielle and I were talking about wedding hair-do's yesterday and I think we are both partial to braided looks.  Here are two of my favorites:

Rustic Chic Engagement Party

by: Ashley

This past weekend I hosted my first "themed" party to celebrate the engagement of my blogging-partner-in-crime Danielle to her future husband Mike. With the help of the most awesome friends, it was a complete success!!!

We chose to hold the party at this Pub downtown.  It has an awesome ambiance - brick walls and vintage pub tables.  The decorations were pretty simple but had just the right touch of rustic and chic.  On the back wall we hung tulle up with twine.  I made a banner using white cardstock and teal and white Martha Stewart glitter.  Oh and those letters were cut using the Cricut (that machine is a dream come true for all you DIYers).  Then I hot-glued the letters onto burlap squares and hung the squares up on the twine.

For the flowers we went to Sam's and picked up baby's breath, daisies, and baby carnations.  We wanted that wild-flower-picked-right-off-the-highway kind of look.  The other jars had tea lights.  Next time I'd put a little bigger candle to give more light.  I loved how the light played off of the burlap.

And if you love mason jars as much as the rest of us do, then I know you've seen these redneck wine glasses before:

So what do you guys think? Any steal worthy ideas? I hope this provides you all with some rustic inspiration for your next party!!

Tuesday Shoesday: Something Trendy

By: Danie
It looks like the trend this spring/summer is going to be seventies style, large accents, chunky heels and colors that pop!

These Mojo Moxy Pippa heels don't have chunky heels {I was never a fan of that look, but if the right shoe came along I would be willing to give it a try} but they are sporting the big bow and neon colors! What more could a girl ask for? These would look so cute with a skirt or flowy slacks- you don't even have to try too hard because the shoes will make the outfit!!

Happy Tuesday!!

Burlap Love

by: Ashley

So I've been consumed with some burlap crafts this past week in preparation for a party which is why I've been a little absent on the blog.  And since I'm having a burlap weekend - I thought I would leave some burlap love on the blog:

Burlap Napkin Rings from EAB Designs on Etsy:

Burlap Hurricane Vase from Jen Grace Martin on Etsy:

Burlap and Lace Table Runner from Little Flower Linen on Etsy:

And last, but definitely not least, Burlap Toms:

Kony 2012

By: Danie

So if you didn't see it on facebook, pinterest or twitter yet, there has been a mass circulation of Kony 2012 photos and videos. It is a campaign by Invisible Children that has a goal to make Joseph Kony, guerrilla group leader of the Lords Resistance Army (LRA) "famous" this campaign's goal is to bring awareness to the situation and justice to the children of Uganda.

Over thirty thousand children have been captured and forced to do unimaginable things. It is such a sad story, it reminds me of Idi Amin who also terrorized Uganda. How amazing is it that the lust for power and money can lead to such blatant disregard for human life? Below is the film created to bring awareness to the situation.

We live in a world that is truly amazing and diverse. To know that there is injustice like this to innocent children makes my heart break. What is most frustrating is that this is just one of many atrocities...Syria, Burma, Yemen. We even have human trafficking happening in the United States!!

Kudos to everyone that is trying to bring awareness to this situation. It's our job as fellow human beings to stand up and speak when something is wrong.

Delish Chicken To Start The Week!!

By: Danie

Hey Everyone, it's Monday again.... ALREADY. These past few weeks have been flying and the weekends have been flying faster! There has been so much to do and so little time, everyone has been asking me where I find the time.. mostly just deprive myself of sleep :( lol

I thought it would be awesome to share this delish recipe. We were craving fried chicken but we couldn't justify actually eating greasy chicken. WHOA, this recipe hit the spot.... it was quick and delish! Enjoy and thank me later :)

Weight Watchers Crusted Honey Mustard Chicken

Ingredients

1 spray(s) cooking spray

2/3 cup(s) lite honey mustard dressing

1/8 tsp table salt

1/8 tsp black pepper

2 tsp dill, freshly chopped

1 medium uncooked scallion(s), finely sliced

1 cup(s) cornflake crumbs

1 pound(s) uncooked boneless skinless chicken breast(s), four 4 oz pieces

Instructions

Preheat oven to 425°F. Coat a shallow pan with cooking spray.

In a small bowl, combine honey mustard dressing, salt, pepper, dill and scallions; remove 1/3 cup and set aside.

Place cornflake crumbs in a shallow bowl. Dip chicken into dressing mixture and then cornflake crumbs; place in prepared pan.

Bake until chicken is golden and no longer pink in center, about 15 minutes.

Drizzle remaining dressing mixture (the 1/3 cup that was set aside) over chicken breasts and serve. Yields 1 piece of chicken and about 1 1/3 tablespoons of dressing per serving.

Tuesday Shoesday: It's Pedi Time.... :)

By: Danie

You may have already jumped the gun and sported some sandals, depending on your location. I know I have totally taken the leap and rocked some cute flat sandals, sans the much needed pedicure. Hopefully no one was really checking out my feet...

Here are some really cute flats from Wet Seal! These are on my to purchase list for my trip to Jamaica later in the spring. Wet Seal has great flats all under $20. It was so hard to chose a pair of sandals but I wanted something nautical and affordable! Check out ASOS, Forever21 and UrbanOG for some cute and mostly affordable flats.

Jamaica 2012...

Couldn't choose a tank... I want them both :)
